New rule from 5 October 2026

Visitors to Kenya now need Kenyan travel health insurance

Every non-Kenyan visitor must buy Kenya's Inbound Travel Health Insurance (up to USD 44 per person) before boarding. Kenyans, Kenyan residents and EAC citizens are exempt; a policy from home does not count.

How much will my travel insurance cost?

Use the calculator below: it applies Kenyan insurers' published 2025 rates for your region and trip length, adjusts for age (children half, 66–75 plus 50%, 76–80 double) and multiplies by the number of travellers. As a guide, a week in the Schengen area costs about USD 17–20 per adult and a week in Africa about USD 13.

Frequently asked questions

How does the travel insurance calculator work?

It applies Kenyan insurers' published 2025 rates for your region and trip length, then the usual age adjustments, and multiplies by the number of travellers. It shows the range across insurers, not a quote.

Why might my quote differ from the estimate?

Insurers round trip lengths into their own bands, some add levies and stamp duty, and options such as winter sports or higher cancellation limits change the price. Your quote shows the exact figure.

Is anything I type in the calculator saved?

No. The estimate is worked out in your browser; nothing is sent until you choose to request a quote.

How much is that in Kenya shillings?

Insurers price travel cover in US dollars and you pay in shillings at their rate. At the Central Bank's KSh 129.81 to the dollar (15 October 2026), USD 20 is about KSh 2,600.

How much more do older travellers pay?

50% more at 66–75 and 100% more at 76–80 on most rate cards; above 80, Europe or Schengen cover at four times the adult rate. Children under 18 pay half.

Happy with the estimate?
