What is the best travel insurance in Kenya?
There is no single best travel insurer in Kenya: the right one depends on your destination, age, visa rule and the medical limit you need. Most large Kenyan insurers are on the Schengen embassies' approved list; a few stand out for older travellers (one accepts travellers to 89, another sells a seniors' plan to 85), for pilgrimage and student plans, or for buying online. Jubilee's travel cover is now sold by SanlamAllianz.

Market changes to know about
Jubilee no longer sells general insurance in Kenya: its general business merged into SanlamAllianz General Insurance on 1 November 2025, which now sells the travel cover.

How to choose a travel insurer
- Check it is on the Schengen list if you need a visa (and not under statutory management).
- Compare the medical limit to your destination: high for the USA, lower for Africa.
- Check the age rule for every traveller.
- Look for the assistance company and a 24-hour number you can reach.
- Read the cancellation and visa-refusal terms before you pay.
- Ask how claims are paid and how fast.
What the insurers charge
Six of the insurers publish their rates. A week in the Schengen area costs about USD 17–20 per adult, a week in Africa about USD 13 and a year of trips USD 129–409, before any age loading.

What is the best travel insurance for Kenya?

Does Jubilee still sell travel insurance in Kenya?
No. Jubilee's general insurance business merged into SanlamAllianz General Insurance on 1 November 2025, which now sells the travel cover; Jubilee in Kenya now focuses on life and health insurance.
What happened to AIG travel insurance in Kenya?
AIG Kenya is now NCBA Insurance, which sells corporate, seniors', student and Schengen travel plans.
Which insurers sell travel insurance online?
About half of the Kenyan insurers with a travel product let you buy online, usually paying by M-Pesa or card. Others issue through an officer or an agency.
Are there insurers to avoid?
Avoid any insurer under statutory management: Trident, Corporate Insurance and KUSCCO Mutual cannot issue new policies since March 2026.

Which insurance companies are approved for Schengen visas in Kenya?
Schengen embassies in Nairobi use one list of 29 approved Kenyan insurers (the EU Delegation's 2025 list), which includes most large Kenyan insurers. One name on it, Corporate Insurance, has been under statutory management since March 2026, so avoid it.
