What is annual multi-trip travel insurance?
Annual multi-trip travel insurance covers every trip you take in a 12-month period under one policy, with each trip limited to 92 or 180 days. On Kenyan insurers' published rates it costs about USD 129–409 for one adult, depending on the region and level of cover, and it pays for itself from about the 8th to 13th one-week trip in a year.

The rules of an annual policy
Most single-trip policies cover up to 92 days, with options to 180 days; annual plans limit each trip to 92 or 180 days.

Insurers refund a policy only if it is cancelled before it starts; for a refused visa one asks for the embassy's refusal letter, and the taxes are not refunded.

For a multiple-entry visa, only the first trip has to be covered; you sign a statement on the application that you will insure later trips (Article 15(2)).

Frequently asked questions
What is annual multi-trip travel insurance?
One policy that covers every trip you take in a 12-month period, with a limit on the length of each trip, usually 92 or 180 days.
How much is annual travel insurance in Kenya?
About USD 129–409 for one adult on published rates, depending on region and level, and about USD 780–980 for a family. Plans that allow 180-day trips cost more.
How many trips make an annual policy worth it?
On published Kenyan rates, from about the 8th to the 13th short trip in a year, or the 4th to 7th month-long trip. If you travel every month or two, annual cover usually wins.
Can I use an annual policy for a Schengen visa?
Yes, if it covers Europe, meets the EUR 30,000 minimum and the insurer is on the Nairobi list. For a multiple-entry visa it also covers the later trips you promise to insure.
Can I get a refund if I travel less than planned?
Usually not. Annual premiums are generally non-refundable once the policy starts, and unused cover does not carry over.
Is there a family annual plan?
Yes. Several insurers sell annual family cover on their worldwide levels, at about USD 780–980 a year.
What if one trip is longer than 92 days?
Choose the 180-day version of the annual plan, or buy a separate long-stay policy for that trip.
