Can seniors get travel insurance in Kenya?

Yes. Most Kenyan insurers cover travellers up to 80, adding 50% to the price at ages 66–75 and 100% at 76–80, and some ask for a medical report over 70. Above 80 the choice narrows to Europe or Schengen cover at four times the adult rate, a seniors' plan for ages 70 to 85, or one insurer that accepts travellers up to 89. Pre-existing conditions are usually excluded.

Tips for older travellers

Declare your health honestly

A wrong answer on the application can void a claim; a declared condition can sometimes be accepted.

Check the age rule

Some insurers count your age at the start of the trip, others at the end of the policy.

Carry your medicines and letter

Take enough medication and a doctor's letter; travel insurance does not pay for routine prescriptions.

Buy early

Cancellation cover protects the trip only from the day you buy.

Frequently asked questions

Can a 75-year-old Kenyan get travel insurance?

Yes. Most Kenyan insurers cover travellers to 80, adding 50% to the price at 66–75 and 100% at 76–80. Some ask for a medical report over 70.

Is there travel insurance for over-80s?

Yes, with fewer choices. Most insurers offer only Europe or Schengen cover above 80, at four times the adult rate; one sells a seniors' plan for ages 70 to 85 and another accepts travellers up to 89.

Are pre-existing conditions such as diabetes or high blood pressure covered?

Usually not: most policies exclude conditions you had before the trip. One insurer covers a declared condition if its underwriter agrees. The emergencies that are new on the trip are covered as normal.

Will I need a medical examination?

Not usually. Some insurers ask travellers over 70 for a satisfactory medical report before they cover them.

How much does senior travel insurance cost?

Take the adult price and add 50% at 66–75 or 100% at 76–80. Three weeks in Europe at 72 comes to about USD 41–63 on published rates.

Does the age limit apply when I buy or when the policy ends?

It varies: one insurer counts your age at the end of the policy (maximum 80 at expiry), others at the start of the trip. Tell us your date of birth and we will check.

Can I use travel insurance for treatment abroad?

No. Travel insurance excludes trips taken to get treatment. For planned care abroad you need international health insurance or SHA pre-approval for the listed procedures.

Travelling after 65?

Tell us the traveller's age, destination and any long-term condition. We find the insurers that will cover them, and the price.
